Frame.io vs WeTransfer: review, or transfer.

WeTransfer sends files. Frame.io collects notes on them. If you are choosing between the two, the job decides it.

Free up to 5 GB. No card. Read on each one’s own pages on October 29, 2026.

The short answer.

Pick WeTransfer to hand over finished files: your client downloads with no account, you can set a price to pay before download with no platform fees, and Ultimate ($25 a month, $19 billed yearly) has no limit on transfer size and no expiry. Comments are per file, not at a moment, and video previews stop at 300 MB. WeTransfer’s free plan is for individual, non-commercial use.

Pick Frame.io when the files need notes before they’re final: comments at a timecode from a guest with a name and email, versions on the same share, and export to your editor. It is $15 a month a member on Pro.

Side by side, with a third option.

Many studios use both: Frame.io for the rounds, WeTransfer for the finals, and two links for the client. Here is where DropYourFiles sits, one link from first cut to last download.

  • You send very large single files with no size limit (Ultimate).

Questions.

Is WeTransfer good for client review?

For a quick look, yes: your client can comment on each file with a name and email. The comments aren’t tied to a moment in the film, and video previews stop at 300 MB.

Can I use WeTransfer Free for client work?

No. WeTransfer’s pricing page says the Free plan is for individual, non-commercial use, which rules out client jobs.

Frame.io or WeTransfer for sending finals?

WeTransfer is built for sending; Frame.io for reviewing. If you want both on one link, so the finals download from the page your client reviewed, that is the gap DropYourFiles fills.
