Is Frame.io free? The free plan and its limits.

“It says we’re out of storage.” Your editor, on the second project of the year.

Yes. Frame.io has a free plan with no card: 2 GB of storage, up to two members and up to two projects. If you pay for Creative Cloud All Apps, Premiere or After Effects, Frame.io says the free plan rises to 100 GB and five projects for two users. Past that, Pro is $15 a member a month.

What the free plan includes.

  • Storage

2 GB, or about forty 50 MB raw files.

  • People

Up to two members on your side, in up to two projects.

  • Your clients

Anyone you send a share link to can watch and comment. Frame.io says share links don’t ask them to sign up or log in.

What it leaves out.

  • Locks on a share

Passphrases, an expiry date on a link, and turning downloads off all start on Pro.

  • Your branding

Custom-branded shares start on Pro too.

  • A third project

Free stops at two. Pro has no project limit.

Free with Creative Cloud.

Frame.io says Creative Cloud All Apps subscribers, and individual Premiere and After Effects subscribers, get two users, five projects, 100 GB and Camera to Cloud. Adobe’s own page calls that plan Creative Cloud Pro.

Adobe’s FAQ adds three things: the first sign-in with an Adobe ID starts a 30-day trial of the Team plan, after which the account falls back to that free plan; Frame.io bills separately from Creative Cloud; and school and college licenses are left out, though Frame.io says students and teachers on an individual All Apps plan qualify.

When you run out.

Frame.io warns you which limit you’ve passed and gives you a short window to get back under it or upgrade. It doesn’t say how long the window is.

Pro is $15 a member a month with 2 TB, plus 2 TB for each extra member, up to five. Team is $25 a member with 3 TB, up to fifteen. Paid yearly, both are 13% less.

If the free plan has to carry photos and film.

DropYourFiles Free holds 5 GB with 1 hour of video, every feature included, and needs no card. Your client reviews the film and the photos on one link and downloads when they approve. Solo is $20 a month with 1 TB. A cheaper alternative to Frame.io for freelancers puts the paid plans side by side, including where Frame.io costs less.
