How long does it take to get wedding photos back?
“Any news on the photos? My mom keeps asking.” Five weeks after the wedding.
Usually three to six weeks for the full gallery, and about three months for the film. That’s what Zola, WeddingWire and The Knot tell couples, and The Knot quotes one photographer at three to twelve weeks. The date in your contract is the one that counts, and many photographers send a few finished photos within a week.

What the numbers say.
Photos: three to six weeks
Zola puts the full gallery at three to six weeks, and WeddingWire at four to six, with some photographers near two weeks and others near two months. A photographer quoted by The Knot gives three to twelve.
What photographers report
Shotkit, a photography site, surveyed 1,850 wedding photographers. Most said two to four weeks, and 11% said more than eight.
The film: about three months
The Knot puts most final films at about three months, depending on the videographer’s staff and schedule, with a highlight film of three to five minutes and a full film of 20 to 30.
A sneak peek first
Many photographers send a few finished photos within a week, according to The Knot.
Something short before the film
Some videographers offer a sneak peek, a short trailer or a same-day edit beside the full film, The Knot notes. If you want one, ask for it and get it in writing.
If yours is late.
Find the date in the contract
The contract should give a range. If it has none, add one before the wedding.
Give it until that date
A week or two without news is normal. Once the contract’s date has passed, that’s the time to speak up.
Ask once, in writing
A short email with the contract’s date and one question: when can we expect them? Asking in writing keeps a record, and the reply usually comes with a date.
For photographers and filmmakers: send what’s ready.
The photos are usually done months before the film. On DropYourFiles both live on one link from the start: the couple reviews and approves the photos now, downloads them, and comes back to the same link when the film lands. How to deliver wedding photos and video together shows the page, and video delivery for wedding videographers covers the film on its own: notes on the second, the next cut on the same link, then the download.
Put the dates in the contract as well: a sneak peek, the gallery in weeks, the film in months, and how long the link stays up. The wedding photography contract template has a delivery clause with a blank for each.
Questions.
How long does it take to get a wedding video back?
The Knot says about three months for most wedding videographers. Your contract’s date is the one to go by.
Is eight weeks too long for wedding photos?
It’s inside the three to twelve weeks one photographer gave The Knot, and longer than most of the photographers in Shotkit’s survey said they take. The date in your contract decides.
What if my wedding photographer never sent the photos?
Check the delivery date in the contract, and once it has passed, ask in writing for a date. Keep the reply.
Do photographers send some photos early?
Many do, usually a few finished photos within a week.
